Islam is at the heart of an emerging global anti-hegemonic culture that combines diasporic and local cultural elements, and blends Arab, Islamic, black and Hispanic factors to generate "a revolutionary black, Asian and Hispanic globalization, with its own dynamic counter-modernity constructed in order to fight global imperialism. (say what!)
There are so many elements in Christianity that militate against just this kind of thing. If we refrain from "at all costs" approaches and maintain a constant willingness to turn the other cheek, we never run the risk of hurting or killing another out of fear.
It saddens me that Muslims have to live in fear of incidents like this (and, apparently, those who fit stereotypes of "what a Muslim looks like") because people of my religion have not taken seriously the New Testament's calling.

But I would tend to think that all major faiths (and the not so major ones) promote positive actions and good intentions, and patience and compassion and mercy. We all have noble ideals and we all fall short of them. So for me, I'm not any more surprised when I see Christians acting badly than when I see Muslims acting badly.
