i found it so interesting that a lot of hip hop n' rap artists r Muslims n' to be honest that what attracted me to it the first place...i mean hearing "The Game" praising the Qura'an at the world music award!...WOW!...i don't like him but still...it's amazing...

Yes, it keeps on surprising me too. The connection between Islam and hip-hop is definitely a recurring subject in my blog.

To be honest I'm not sure how to give a perfect explanation of why there are so many Muslim rappers or rappers who use Islamic imagery, but I think a couple of different factors go into it. I think it is also complicated by the fact that even though there are alot more African-American orthodox Muslims than there are Five Percenters, Five Percenters definitely seem more well represented in hip-hop. I've read some people specualated that since they put alot of emphasis on showing and proving, they develop their verbal skills. But I'm sure there is more to it than that.
